We use
numbers and math all the time. Shopping, studying, socializing, numbers and
math are in every aspect of daily life. For children – those who are just
learning numbers and math – how do they understand these abstract concepts? Language,
parents, and culture may play an important role in children’s learning of such
new concepts. We collaborate with Lab of Developmental Studies at Harvard
university and Cognitive Development Lab at Chicago university to conduct
cross-linguistic and cross-cultural studies. We hope to learn from the studies
that how language and culture affect children’s understanding of numbers and
math.
